Ruth Gillespie

Ruth Gillespie, 80, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017, in the Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa.

The daughter of Marian (Speer) and Walter James Roberts, she was born February 27, 1937, in Le Clair, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Iowa and graduated from Le Clair High School with the class of 1937.

On December 20, 1978, she was united in marriage to Michael "Max" Gillespie. They lived in Davenport where she worked as a care giver for many years.

Ruth is survived by her husband, one son Larry Edwards and wife Annie of Davenport, Iowa, one daughter Cindy Chadwick and husband Doug of Wheatland, Iowa, fourteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers Jim Roberts and wife Louann of Le Clair, Iowa and Joe Roberts and wife Linda of Conesville, Iowa, one sister Jo Ann Pauli and husband Lloyd of Princeton, Iowa, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons David Edwards and Victor Edwards, one daughter Karen Edwards, and two grandchildren.

Ruth was a dog lover and had many in her lifetime.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (July 19, 2017) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Home Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carl Sindalar Sr., Carl Sindalar Jr., George Kastantis, Hunter Kastantis, Willie Collis, and Donnie Sparks.

Visitation will be Wednesday (July 19, 2017) from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at 11:00 a.m.
