Doris Irene Pearce, 92 of Kirksville, MO passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The youngest daughter of Rachel and Dewey Parrish in Knox County, MO. In San Pedro, CA on August 24, 1942 she married Private Tommy Kurl Small, to this marriage four children were born; Marcena Joy Small, Garry Kurl Small, Bobby Gene Small and Carol Ann Small. In July 1981, she married Leon Pearce, who preceded her in death in September of 1998. also preceding her in death were here parents; sister, Leta Smith, brother Allen Parrish; first husband , Tommy Kurl Small in September of 1979; sons, Garry Kurl Small in April of 2013, Bobby Gene Small, daughter, Carol Ann Small both in infancy; daughter-in-law Suzanne Small April of 1988; son-in-law, Jack Kite in May of 2015.
Doris is survived by grandchildren, Kathi Lyons of Columbia, Mo, Kendell (Terri) Kite of St. Charles, MO,Sara (Darren) Small of Columbia, MO, Kody (Cora) Kite of Coulmbia, MO and Shari (Glen) Higley of Platte City, MO; five great grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; step-daughters, Linda (Lala) Prough, Carolyn (Bobby) Lindquist and Debbie (Harry) Clubine all of Greentop, MO and several step grandchildren.
Doris was employed at the glove factory for 9 years and at Hollisters for 11 years before retiring. After her retirement, in 1980, she and a friend traveled to Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Irelandand Switzerland. She loved to sing and as a member of Sweet Adelines but her best performances were when singing to her grandchildren-"You Are My Sunshine" and "That Little Girl (Boy) of Mine". She also loved traveling and playing cards but her family and friends were her greatest treasures. She was a Senior Circle Volunteer at Northeast Regional Medical Center for over 15 years up to the time of her death.
Most know her as Doris, some as Fussy, of course mom and a select few as grandma. She will be dearly missed by many.
Visitation will be one hour before the service, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the funeral home.
Funneral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville, MO with Pastor Sheila Swafford officating. Burial in the Linville Cemetery in Edina, MO.
Pallbearers are Kendell Kite, Kody Kite, Cory Montgomery, Jack Kite, Brandon President, Tommy D. Small, Ralph Small and Roger Thompson.
Honorary bearers are Jackson Montgomery, Kendrick President and Glen Higley.
Memorial are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left at or sent to the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave, Kirksville, MO 63501.
