Marybelle Selters, age 102 of Kirksville passed away on Tuesday (October 13, 2009) at Kirksville Manor Care.
The daughter of Charles M. Begole and Inez Clemison Begole, she was born July 24, 1907, on the family farm near Ethel, Missouri.
Mrs. Selters attended rural schools in both Macon and Adair counties and graduated from Grand View Rural School near Tullvania, Missouri in 1924. She continued her education at Kirksville State Teacher College (now Truman State University) for the next two years, receiving a life teaching certificate. Later she received a B.S. degree in elementary education from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. She taught in rural schools in Missouri, in the elementary school in Center, Colorado, and at Washington Elementary in Kirksville, Missouri.
On February 22, 1930, she married Max Selters of Monte Vista, Colorado, who preceded her in death on August 3, 1962. Also preceding her in death were her parents and ten brothers and sisters.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Elaine Novinger of Kirksville, Jean Bruce of LaPlata and Coleen McCollum of Bucklin.
Mrs. Selters moved to Kirksville in 1967 following the death of her husband, and she and her sister, Velma Bragg, shared a home for over thirty years.
Mrs. Selters was a member of First Baptist Church in Kirksville, CZ Chapter of P.E.O., Kirksville Area Retired School Personal and Missouri Retired Teachers Association.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (October 16, 2009) at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Marty Joplin officiating. Music will be provided by Cheyrl Newland singing, “Family of God”, “Beyond the Sunset” and “A Perfect Day” accompanied by Dianthe Cable, organist. Burial will be in the Selters family plot in Monte Vista, Colorado.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday (October 16, 2009) at the First Baptist Church.
