Barbara Evelyn Utterback Edwards, 89 of Kirksville, MO passed away November 4, 2009 at her home. She was the daughter of Joseph Sterling and Mabel Fritzler Utterback. She was born August 2, 1920 in Delta, Iowa.
She graduated from Oskaloosa High School and attended Grinnell College her freshman year. She graduated from William Penn University with a degree in History and Education. On July 7, 1943 she was united in marriage to Lt. Oliver Gilbert (Gib) Edwards who was a member of the United States Navy Air Corp.
Barbara taught elementary classes in Rose Hill and Oskaloosa, IA. She enjoyed playing golf and was an active member of Elmhurst Country Club. She was elected to the Oskaloosa School Board for three terms, serving as board president in 1963. She enjoyed attending field trials and traveling in the U.S. with her husband. She traveled in Europe with a life long friend, and in Africa and Asia with her daughters. She was P.E.O. member and past president of IO, Iowa before demitting to chapter IG, Missouri.
Barbara is survived by her children, Lynn Edwards Kendall and husband Pete of Kirksville, MO and Ann Edwards Posa and husband Craig of Scottsdale, AZ. Nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents; her husband; and her only grandchild, Gilbert Edwards Kendall, preceded her in death.
A private memorial service for Barbara Utterback Edwards will be held in Oskaloosa at a later date. Memorials for Barbara are to the I Think I Can Foundation and the Field of Dreams Rescue.
