Peggy Middleton, 83, of Downing, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 23, 2009, in Kewanee, IL. She was born July 28, 1926 in rural Scotland County, the daughter of Homer and Cleota (Allison) Mullinix. She graduated from the Downing High School in 1944.
Peggy is survived by her husband, H Middleton; son Terry (Jean) Dufur of Queen City, MO; granddaughter Sandy (David) Daniels of Queen City, MO and grandson David (Marla) Dufur of Independence, KS; a sister Patsy (Bill) O’Brien of Alexis, IL; great-grandchildren Logan Daniels, Preston and Taylor Dufur; stepsons Donnie (special friend Jo Ann) Middleton of Memphis, MO and Dick (Cathy) Middleton of Downing, MO and many extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Peggy was employed for many years at Croft Trailer Rental in Kansas City, MO. She also was very active in helping run the family farm and grain elevator with her first husband, Perley Dufur, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her great-grandson, Ty Daniels, and a brother, Raymond Mullinix.
Peggy enjoyed traveling, attending many International Rotary Conferences with H, and visiting with family and friends, as well as tending to her yard and flowers. She was an active volunteer at the Lancaster Nutrition Site and a member of the Downing Baptist Church, the Schuyler County Rotary Club, and the Flying Farmers.
Peggy’s sunny smile will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Her son and wife, Terry and Jean, and grandchildren Sandy and David greatly appreciate the wealth of happiness and activity that H brought into Peggy’s life since their marriage on October 20, 1996.
A Memorial service will be held at the Downing Baptist Church on Saturday (November 28, 2009) with Reverend David Barton officiating. A private Interment will be in the Queen City Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be after 2:00 P. M. Friday (November 27, 2009) with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening at
Dooley Funeral Home
Memorials may be made to the Downing Baptist Church or the Lancaster Nutrition Site in lieu of flowers and can be left at or sent to the funeral home.
