Janice Elinor Slaughter of rural Queen City passed away Tuesday December 8, 2009 in the Schuyler County Nursing Home.
The daughter of William J. and Pansy (Campbell) Muff, she was born in Queen City, Missouri on September 20, 1925. On February 16, 1947 she was united in marriage to Victor Junior Slaughter who preceded her in death on February 19, 2009. Also preceding her in death were her father on August 14, 1978; her mother on June 7, 1970 and her son, Russell Slaughter on January 8, 1996.
Surviving is one daughter, Linda Bowers and husband Richard of Jefferson City, MO; two sons, Larry Slaughter and wife Karen and Neil Slaughter both of Queen City; ten grandchildren, Amy (Bowers) Gaffney, Stacy (Bowers) Pointer, Kelly Bowers, Wendy (Slaughter) Williams, Rachael (Slaughter) Dudley, Christy Smyser, Tara Leedom, Eric Bowers, Austin Slaughter and Mike Leedom and fourteen great grandchildren.
Janice grew up in Queen City and graduated from the Queen City High School with the Class of 1943. She worked for Sutherlands Lumber Company in Kansas City in 1945 and 1946 while Junior was serving in the United States Army. After her marriage she and Junior resided on and farmed the family farms until their health failed.
She was a member of the Queen City Christian Church and Chapter G P.E.O.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 12, 2009 in the Dooley Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Dennis Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be one hour before the services from 10:00 to 11:00.
Pallbearers will be Leon Schmitter, Shannon Smith, Wendel Gehrke, Jerry Conner, Perley Jones and Donald (Buddy) Cass.
