Darrell Vernon Day, 80 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (December 24, 2009) at Kirksville Manor Care.
The son of James Marion and Arvilla Elizabeth (Hershey) Day, he was born July 31, 1929 in Leonard, Missouri. On August 28, 1954 he married Darlene Hettinger and to this union two daughters were born. On October 23, 1976 he married Alberta Bowen and she preceded him in death on November 24, 1988. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy.
Darrell is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Diane Sizemore and husband Jerry of Bevier, MO and Patricia Lee-Ann Johnson of Callao, MO; one sister, Elizabeth McClanahan and husband Charles of Kirksville; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; five nephews and three nieces.
Darrell attended school in Leonard and graduated from Leonard High School. He served in the U.S. Army, serving overseas during the Korean Conflict. He worked at a Fertilizer Plant in Clarence, MO and then for the City of Moberly, MO in Maintenance until he retired.
He was a member of the Kirksville Moose Lodge #1751. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (December 30, 2009) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Carrol Davenport officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salisbury, MO.
Pallbearers will be Kyle McClanahan, Keith McClanahan, Aaron McClanahan, Dennis McClanahan, Dalton McClanahan and Kevin Hershey.
Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the
