Major Michael Eichemier, U. S. Army retired, age 54 passed away December 25, 2009 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Michael was born on March 6, 1955, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Elgin (Ike) Labert and Velma Louise (Griswold) Eichemier. He was united in marriage to Rita Sue Wulff on April 24, 1996 at Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Michael is survived by his wife, Rita Eichemier; mother, Louise Eichemier of Kirksville; one daughter, Ashley Fowler and husband Chris of Starkville, MS; one brother, John H. Eichemier of Kirksville; two sisters, Dr. Sue Ellen Slaughterbeck of Bowling Green, KT and Barbara Ann Jones and husband Tony of Kirksville; several nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law, Dr. Stephen Slaughterbeck.
Michael was reared in Kirksville and graduated from the Kirksville High School and Truman State University. He entered the Armed forces in 1973 and served four years in the Air Force before returning to the university where he received a degree in English and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. He served 16 years as an air defense artillery officer with two tours in Germany. On September 30, 1999 he retired with the rank of Major. After retirement he has made his home in Hattiesburg, MS.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday (January 9, 2010) at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Virgil Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Park View Memorials Garden Garden of Prayer Mausoleum with full Military rites.
