Victor Shisler

Victor Shisler, 94, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. He had been a resident at the Putnam County Care Center for a brief time prior to his stay in the hospital
Victor L. Shisler was born in Adair County, not far from the community of Sydney, on April 8, 1915, the son of Austin and Allie (Billington) Shisler who preceded him in death. He attended the Morelock rural school and also two years of High School before quitting when his mother became ill to help on the farm. He later completed his GED. On January 19, 1937 Victor married Edna Kenney in Unionville, MO, and she preceded him death on December 15, 2007.
Victor and Edna lived and farmed in the Sydney area of Putnam County until 1951 when they moved to Davenport, IA, where he worked for the Rock Island Arsenal. They returned to Unionville upon Victor’s retirement in 1977.
Victor and Edna were quite will known for music as they played and sang throughout the area. They were active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for nearly 20 years singing and playing music. They even recorded a CD of their music. Victor and Edna also liked to travel, especially in the western United States. He was a member of the Parkview Church of Christ.
Victor is survived by many nieces and nephews and host of good friends for whom and with whom he played music over the years. John and Anna Griswold are especially close friends who survive. Even though Victor and Edna did not have children of their own they thought of them as their own family.
Victor was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Current and Mavis Partin.
Funeral services for Victor Shisler will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery
