Dell Loughead
Dell Loughead, 82, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO, on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. She had been a patient there for a brief time.
Idella Francis (Connell) Loughead was born March 18, 1927 in Jamesport, MO, the oldest of three children to James D. and Kathryn (Burge) Connell who preceded her in death. After graduation for Trenton High School in 1945 she attended college for one year and on August 18, 1946, she married Ed Loughead in Trenton, MO, and he survives in Unionville.
Dell and Ed moved to Unionville, MO, in 1967 where they owned and operated the Ben Franklin store for twenty years. Prior to that they had lived in Dale, IN, and other locations in the Midwest. Dell was a homemaker as well as a good help mate to Ed at the Ben Franklin store.
Dell enjoyed paying bridge and following genealogy. She was also an avid reader and collected antiques. She was a sports enthusiast, especially for the Kansas City Chiefs. She and Ed enjoyed traveling and they wintered in Florida for a number of years. Dell had an energetic and outgoing personality. She loved having her family around and they called her Grandma Dee.
In addition to her husband, Dell is also survived by three sons: Martin Edward Loughead and wife Perri of Osage Beach, MO; Wesley Jay Loughead of Unionville, MO; and Thomas Kenton (Bernie) Loughead and his wife Carol of Unionville, MO; Dell’s grandchildren are Tanya Loughead of Buffalo, NY; Brett Loughead of Columbia, MO; Rikki Engle of Maryville, MO; Lindsay Hayward of Little Rock, AR; Jackie Loughead of Columbia, MO; and Kaitlyn Loughead of Maryville, MO. She is also survived by a brother, J. R. Connell and his wife Rosamond of Columbia, MO, and several nieces and nephews.
Others who preceded Dell in death are a brother, Don Connell, a sister-in-law, Gloria Connell, and a nephew, Patrick Connell.
Funeral services for Idella Loughead will be at Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO on Friday, January 22, 2010, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the Macular Degeneration Foundation and entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
