Robert E. Hutchens
Robert E. Hutchens, 65 of Kirksville passed away Friday (January 29, 2010) at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO.
The son of Maurice and Ruth (Price) Hobbs, he was born August 19, 1944 in Kansas City, MO. On October 11, 2001 in Memphis, MO he was united in marriage to Paulette McCune.
Robert is survived by his wife, Paulette; four daughters, Michelle Giessen and husband Uwe of Lake Worth, FL, Toni Vice and husband Monta Jr. of Kirksville, Shellie Roland and husband Jim of Kirksville, and Melissa Robillard and husband Nick of Abilene, TX; thirteen grandchildren, Jake, Clay and Faith Vice, Angelica, Michelle, Sarah, Robert, Katie and Albert Roland, Chris, Jerry, Maria and Nick Jr. Robillard one great grandchild, Julianna Roland; one sister, Mary Welch and husband Richard of Lockwood, MO and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.
Robert graduated high school in Kansas City. He attended college and later law enforcement training. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam conflict where he received a purple heart. He worked for Yellow Freight for many years. He worked law enforcement in Lees Summit, MO before moving to Kirksville where he worked as a Sheriffs deputy. He then worked in private security until he retired.
He was a member of the Meadowbrook Christian Church. He was a Christian man and was very faithful to the Lord. He loved to travel, camping, and cooking.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (February 2, 2010) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Philip Lyons officiating. Music will be provided by Melvin Bissey singing, “On the Wings of a Dove” and the congregation will sing, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
Pallbearers will be Gary McCuskey, Jeff Overturf, Lance Bright, John P. Grissom, Robert Roland and Chris Robillard.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday (February 1, 2010) at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
