Gary Casady, 64, of Unionville, MO, passed away at his home surrounded by his friends and family on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Gary had been battling cancer.
Gary Clement Casady was born in Unionville, MO, on August 19, 1945, the son of Darl and Revah (Munden) Casady who preceded him in death. He attended rural schools while growing up in his parent’s store at Hartford and graduated from Unionville High School in 1963. He then began a working career that saw him take on many different jobs in many different places. Gary was a jack-of-all trades who liked to roam the country and work in different locations. He traveled to all fifty states and was a farm hand, truck driver, stable hand at Prairie Meadows in Des Moines and laborer. He also co-owned the Outback Motel with Debbie Smith at one time.
Gary was a friendly fellow who liked to visit and chat with friends and family who would often gather to loaf at his garage. He was always known as a good worker. He liked to hunt and fish, watch and read westerns and joke and have a good time with others. Gary was a member of the Hartford Baptist Church.
Gary is survived by his long-time companion, Debbie Smith, of Unionville, MO, and by his daughter Casandra Casady, also of Unionville. A step-daughter, Malinda Garr, of Unionville also survives. Two brothers survive, Leland Casady and wife Judy of Lees Summit, MO, and Lester Casady and his wife Julie of Holt, MO, as well as nieces and nephews: Michael Casady, Gregory Casady, JoAnne Smith, Ben Casady, Todd Rhyne, Travis Rhyne, and Tracy Boyle.
Funeral Services for Gary Casady were held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Sunday, January 31. Visitation was on Saturday, January 30. Pastor Rob Fleshman conducted the services with recorded musical selections “Daddy’s Hands,” “Just Give it Away,” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” Casket bearers were Michael Casady, Ben Casady, Ethan Casady, Gregory Casady, Dalton Casady, and Kirk Richardson. Honorary casket bearers were Donald Garr, Jerry Ledford, Robbie Allen, Jay Heir, Brian Worley, and Ronnie Cunningham. Interment was in the Hartford Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
