Frances Ames
Frances Lillian Ames, 100 of Kirksville passed away Saturday (February 13, 2010) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
The daughter of Edward Foster and Ella Beta (Plummer) Stanbrough, she was born June 30, 1909 in Dixon, Illinois. On June 1, 1958 in Dixon, IL, she was united in marriage to George Walter Ames and he preceded her in death on January 22, 1973. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Hazel May, cousin, Lorraine Ides and niece, Dorothy Pratt.
Frances is survived by several nieces, including Annabelle Swisher of Green Castle, MO.
Frances was raised on a dairy farm south of Dixon, IL and graduated from the Dixon high school. She then entered Laughlin Hospital School of Nursing and got her registered nursing degree in 1932. She was a surgical nurse for Dr. Ear Laughlin and was also supervisor of nursing at Laughlin Hospital until she retired in 1973.
She was a member of the 6th District Nurses Association & ANA, and the First United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (February 17, 2010) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Sheila Swafford officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
There will be no visitation.
