Mildred Irene Cooper, 87, of Brashear passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Kirksville Manor Care Center while under Hospice care.
The daughter of Albert Thomas and Grace Golden [Sanders] Lawson, she was born October 27, 1922 in Packwood, Iowa. On March 1, 1941 near Green Grove, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Kyle Wesley Cooper who preceded her in death on March 9, 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Janice K. in 1948, one brother, Bernice Lawson, two sisters, Ruby [Lawson] Mulford and Helen [Lawson] Sorenson.
Mildred is survived by one son, Kenneth Kyle Cooper and wife Carol of Hurdland, one daughter, Kathy Lynn Roberts and husband Richard of Brashear; five grandchildren, Scott Cooper & wife Sherri of Tennessee, Angel Cooper of Columbia, Corey Salter & wife Kristina of Novinger, Karissa Salter of St. Charles, Cody Salter & fiancée Lisa of Columbia
and several step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; BreeAnna, Ashley, & Sandra Cooper of Shelbyville Ally, Patience, Ian Kyle, & Ava of Novinger, and Kynleigh & Deyton White of St. Charles as well as several step great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mildred, at the age of 4, moved back to Missouri and received her education at Shipley’s Point, Green Grove, and Novinger schools. Mildred worked at Florsheim Shoe Company and Laughlin Hospital while Kyle served overseas in WWII. They moved to the Hurdland & Brashear communities in 1943 where they were engaged in farming and owned Cooper Grain Elevator in Hurdland. Later, Mildred owned a machine quilting business in Brashear. Mildred will be most remembered for her extraordinary talent in playing the piano and organ. She took very few lessons and was mostly self-taught. She was a member of the Brashear Community Bible Church of where she was the pianist and organist for over 50 years. She loved her Lord.
She was active in PTA, served as 4-H leader, supported mission work in many countries, and was a big supporter of the Brashear Tigers. Mildred enjoyed cooking, sewing, spending time with family, and faithfully serving others in her community.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Shannon Perry officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Larry Platz, Laverne Gerhold, Joe Shelton, Rick Hale, Terry Baker and Dean Sorenson. Honorary bearers will be Corey Salter, Scott Cooper, Cody Salter, Ian Kyle Salter and Deyton White.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
