Dean Maring

Dean Maring, 81, of Powersville, MO, passed away at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA, on Saturday, February 20, 2010. He had been taken there following a heart attack.
Earl Dean Maring was born in Mercer County, MO, on July 31, 1928, the son of Herbert and Amber (Morris) Maring, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Lucerne High School in 1946 and began working with the Milwaukee Railroad. He then went to Wyoming to work in the oil fields before entering the United States Army where he served in combat in the Korean War from 1951- 1953, rising to the rank of Sergeant.
Dean then returned to Lucerne where he began Maring Oil Company.
Dean married Louise McCollom in Powersville, MO, on October 15, 1955 and she survives at home in Powersville. Two sons were born to this union: Gary Dean and Herbert Kelly.
Dean later started Maring Oil Company in Powersville with his father and his brother, Tommy Maring and Dean operated that business until his death. Dean loved his work and was especially good with people. He liked to joke and tease a little, but he was well respected and thought of by all who knew him. He liked to collect antique bowls, hunt, and fish and he was an avid mechanic.
Dean was a 50 year Mason, a member of the Somerset and later Hartford Lodge. He was also a member of the VFW and of the Lucerne Christian Church, having been baptized at a young age.
In addition to his wife, Dean is survived by his two sons, Gary Maring of Powersville, MO, and Kelly Maring and wife Julie of Lucerne, MO. Surviving grandchildren are Troy Maring and wife Nikki, Tyson Maring, Trisha Maring, Carissa Cobb and Levi Trimble. Makenna Maring is Dean’s great grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Ballard and husband John of Lee’s Summit, MO, a sister-in-law, Betty Maring of Unionville, MO, and by a former daughter-in-law, Gayla Maring.
Dean was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Maring.
Funeral services for Dean Maring will be at the First Christian Church in Unionville, MO on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Interment will be in the Powersville Cemetery.
