Irma Viola (Watson) James 99, of Alexis, IL passed away Thursday (March 18, 2010) at her home in Alexis, IL.
Irma was born August 29, 1910 in Brashear, MO, the daughter of William and Eva (Vaughn) Watson. On September 2, 1931 in Queen City, MO, she was united in marriage to Milo John James, who preceded her in death on November 26, 1974. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Edith Rowe, two brothers, Lloyd and Dean Watson, two daughters in laws, four grandchildren and one great grandson.
Irma is survived by five sons, Harry James and wife Betty of Knox City, MO, Aven James and wife Fern of Galesburg, IL, Dean James and wife Dorothy of Alexis, IL, Ronald James and wife Karen of Kirksville, MO, Carroll James of Westminster, CO; two daughters, Loraine Rigdon and husband Glenn of Galesburg, IL, Vivian Gowan and husband Tim of Rockford, IL; two sisters, Ruth Dare of Kirksville, MO, Helen Ross of Clinton, MO; sister-in-law, Beulah Watson of Gibbs, MO; 32 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren; 20 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Irma was raised east of Kirksville and attended the New Zion rural school. After her marriage she and Milo moved to a farm west of Greentop where they raised their family. She was an avid gardener and hard worker. She loved helping her family by canning, making home made bread and quilts for them.
She was a charter member of the Village Baptist Church in Alexis; IL. Her hobby was memorizing scripture and volunteering at nursing homes.
A funeral service will be held at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home on Thursday (March 25, 2010) at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Steve Rigdon officiating. Interment will be in the Greentop Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 E. Shepherd Ave., Kirksville, MO 63501 660-665-2233
Memorials are suggested to the New Harmony Church, Village Baptist Church or the Gideon’s International and can be left at or sent to the funeral home.
