February 11, 1954 — February 27, 2010

Gary Dale Bru, 56, of Lucerne, MO, passed away at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO, on Saturday, February 27, 2010. His death came after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
The son of Henry and Josephine (Huston) Bru, Gary was born at the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital on February 11, 1954, in Marshalltown, IA. He spent his early childhood years in Van Cleave, IA. As a young boy his family moved to Montezuma, IA, where he graduated from high school in 1972. Shortly after graduation he married Diana Hicks and to this union five children were born.
On July 17, 1999 he married Ruth Pauley Lupton and she survives at home. Also surviving are three sons: Christopher and wife Dawn Bru of Phoenix, AZ; Jason Bru of Raymore, MO; and Geremy Bru of Paris Island, SC. One daughter survives: Holly Eddy and her husband Chuck of Humphreys, MO, who are expected another of Gary’s grandchildren in May. Three step-children also survive: Mark Lupton of Clinton, MO; Shawna Read and husband Ben of Cameron, MO; and Chares Lupton and wife Sarah of Albia, IA. Gary’s eight grandchildren are Hillary Bru, Tracer Bru, Aurora Read, Bailey Lupton, Evelina Read, Sophia Read, Earl Read, and Quincy Lupton. Gary’s surviving siblings are Jolene Bru Tratchel and her companion Craig Vinton, Daniel Bru and wife Rachel, David Bru and wife Carolyn, Robert Bru, Jana Bru, Dennis Bru, and Kevin Bru and wife Tracy. Twenty nephews and eleven nieces also survive.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Timothy Bru, and sister-in-law Donena Bru.
Gary spent much of his young adult life working at what he enjoyed, farming and driving a truck. In 1978 he moved to Missouri where he began managing a dairy farm outside of Trenton, MO. Shortly after this time he came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior and began working in the ministry, touching many lives with his zeal for the Lord. He began working for the Larry Barnes Insurance Agency in 1985 where he became district manager in 1986, then moving up to a regional manager position in 1988. Later he again returned to farming and driving a truck in the early 90’s. In 1999 he began driving for Big and Small Incorporated of Osceola, IA, where he made many dear friends.
Gary was a loving and devoted husband, father, and brother. He worked tirelessly and unselfishly for his family. In all things he put his loved ones before himself. He cherished most in life sharing a meal or time in fellowship with family and friends. He loved the Lord, family, big engines, babies, and all things cowboy. He will be deeply and sadly missed by his wife of 10 ½ years, his children, step-children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends.
