Polly Farley, 77, of Unionville, MO, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, April 3, 2010. She had been battling cancer.
Polly Ellen (Bunnell) Farley was born January 5, 1933, in Pennville, MO, the daughter of Leonard and Lillian (Sizemore) Bunnell, who preceded her in death. On August 2, 1953, she married Earnest Farley in Newtown, MO, and he preceded her in death on June 6, 1980.
Polly and Earnest lived in the Newtown area after their marriage and then moved to a farm near Lucerne, MO, in 1960 where they farmed and Earnest drove a truck. When Earnest passed away in 1980, Polly finished her GED and then went to nursing school where she graduated with her LPN degree in May of 1982. She then worked at Milan Healthcare Facility in Milan, MO, until her retirement in 1998. At that time she also moved from the farm to Unionville.
Polly was a person with a pleasant personality who loved to travel, cook, garden and quilt. She had a determined spirit that helped her deal with her disease in a positive way. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved to look after her children. Polly had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints later in life.
Polly is survived by her children, Dea Ann Farley of Las Vegas, NV; Valancy Farley of Newbern, TN; Eric Farley of Shawnee, KS; and step-son Lonnie Farley of Jamesport, MO. A granddaughter, Ellen Farley Thompson of Las Vegas, NV, also survives as well as two brothers, Jim Bunnell of Centerville, IA, and Terry Bunnell of Unionville, MO.
In addition to her parents and husband, Polly was preceded in death by a son, Mark Farley of Unionville, MO and step-son Larry Farley of St. Joseph, MO.
Services for Polly Farley will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home at 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 17, 2010 with visitation beginning at 6:00 pm. Polly’s body was cremated at her request. Interment will be at a later date in the Lucerne Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
