Claudine Terry 97 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (April 4, 2010) at Kirksville Manor Care.
Claudine was born on July 4, 1912 in Knox County, MO, the daughter of Joseph R. and Elsie (Parrish) Carter. She was a 1929 graduate of Knox City High School and received the B.S. in Education degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1935. She received the Master of Music Education degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1950. Additional graduate work was done at the Northern Colorado University and the University of Illinois. She was married to Emery Triplett in 1935.
Claudine taught at Knox City, Novelty, Memphis and Meadville, MO and at Godfrey, IL. From 1947 to 1961 she held the position of supervisor of vocal music in the Moberly Public Schools. She was a member of the faculty at Northeast Missouri State University from 1961 to 1975 where she taught music education. She retired in 1975 and was named Assistant Professor Emeritus. In 1968 she was married to Dr. Howard Terry who passed away in June of
1983.
Claudine was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Missouri Music Education Association, the Music Educators National Conference, Delta Kappa Gamma, Sigma Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Lambda Theta, A Z Club, and Chapter C Z, P.E.O. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, serving as Chancel Choir director from 1961 to 1985. She organized and director of the Senior Songsters and a former member of the handbell choir at the First Baptist Church.
Claudine is survived by three stepsons, Howard T. Terry and wife Irene of Dayton, OH, Richard L. Terry of Beckley, WV, and James M. Terry and wife Sue of Athens, GA; four grandchildren, Cathy Terry Shaffer, Bill Terry and wife Julia, David Terry and Alex Terry, three great grandchildren, Andrew Shaffer, Allison Rose Terry and Kayla Anne Terry and several cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (April 9, 2010) at First Baptist Church with Reverend Marty Joplin officiating. Music will be provided by the Senior Songsters singing, “How Great Thou Art”, “He Lives” and “It Is Well With My Soul” accompanied by Dianthe Cable. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Tade, Dr. Richard Valuck, Wayne Newman, Leon Devlin and Charles Baldwin.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday with a P.E.O. service at 6:30 p.m. at the
