Fred Schnelle, 60, of Pollock, MO, passed away suddenly at the Sullivan County Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 9, 2010.
William Frederick Schnelle was born in Unionville, MO, on August 27, 1949, the son of William A. and Mary Elizabeth (Lester) Schnelle. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1967 and then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO, where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education. On August 16, 1969 he married Ruth Quigley and they later divorced. On September 7, 1991, he married Cherie Felton in Centerville, IA.
After college Fred was a farm manager for a private farming operation in Brookfield, MO, but then moved to Putnam County where he owned and operated his own farm. He raised row crops as well as beef cattle, hogs, and sheep. He taught Vocational Agriculture at Putnam County High School in 1978 and 1979.
Fred was an outstanding citizen in his community. He was a longtime member of the Jackson Township Board in Putnam County as well as longtime sexton of the Plainview Cemetery. He was a staunch Republican who loved history and loved his country. Fred had an outgoing and gregarious personality. He cared deeply about those he cared for, especially his grandkids. He was always eager to lend a helping hand and was a leader in his neighborhood. Fred was an avid gun collector who also liked to fish and read. He was also an active blood donor and, upon his death, was a transplant donor.
Fred is survived by his parents, and his wife, Cherie. Two sons also survive: Chris Schnelle and his wife Christina of Ewing, MO, and Brannon Schnelle of Atlanta, GA. Three step-daughters also survive: Janette Parker and her husband Rich of Centerville, IA; Mindi Tieden and her husband Doug of Moravia, IA; and Christy Cavin and her husband Richard of Promise City, IA. Twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, Carl Schnelle and his wife Juanita of Camden Point, MO.
Services for Fred Schnelle will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Monday, April 12 at 2:00 pm with visitation on Sunday, April 11 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Plainview Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Plainview Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
