James Nelson Helton, 95 of Brashear passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
Jim was born on September 16, 1914 in Shannon County, Missouri, the son of John Riley and Doria Bell Edgmond Helton. He was united in marriage with Lela Bell Vice on May 27, 1934 in Jefferson City, MO and she preceded him in death in May 20, 1999. He married Vera Lile on February 14, 2004, in Brashear, MO and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Edward D. Helton and wife Cora Lee of Moberly, MO and James R. Helton and wife Johanna of Holts Summit, MO, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, 5 step children, Denice (Jim) Winkleman, Debra (Frank) Grgurich, Darlene Stephenson, Doris Snyder and John F. Lile, 10 step grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Jim farmed in Adair County for 42 years until his retirement in 1978 when he moved into Brashear. He enjoyed many activities including gardening, hunting, fishing, bowling, card playing and dancing.
He was a member of the Brashear United Methodist Church, Colony Lodge #168 in Colony, MO, Ward councilman for the city of Brashear, Chairman of the Board of the Brashear United Methodist Church, and Sunday School Superintendent.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (April 18, 2010) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Beryl Cragg and Reverend John Dungan officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Helton, Lee Helton, Philip Mein, Max Siebuhr, Colby Siebuhr and Derek Snyder.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday with a Masonic service at 6:00 p.m. at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
