Sidney Osborn

Avery Sidney “Sid” Osborn, lifelong area resident, well know businessman, and active community member passed away December 30th, 2009 in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was 73.
The son of Lloyd and Clella Osborn, Sidney was born November 24th, 1936 near Elmer Mo. On November 5th 1955 he was united in marriage to Peggy Clark in Kirksville. Peggy preceded him in death on April 12th, 2009. Also preceding him were his parents, one brother Lloyd “Buck” Osborn, and two sisters, Fara Delores Aaron, and Beverly Osborn in infancy.
Sidney is survived by his daughter Marla Eckel and husband Ben of Jupiter, Fl, his son Alan Osborn and wife Carmen of Lexington, South Carolina, four grandchildren Ashley Eckel of New York City, NY, A1C Jeremiah Osborn currently stationed in Germany, Nathan Osborn of Lexington, South Carolina, and Emily Osborn of Lexington, South Carolina, one sister, Illa Marlene Lay of Daytona Beach Shores , Fl., two brothers, Lonnie Osborn and wife Sandra of Brashear, Ronnie Osborn and wife Belva of Kirksville, brother in law Gary Clark and wife Charlotte of Brashear, sister in law Joyce Niece of Green City, and his loyal cat companion of many years, Zeb. Sidney is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless good friends that he made along the journey.
Sidney attended Porter rural school, Kirksville Junior High, and Kirksville High School, before moving to Brashear where he graduated with the class of 1953. He also attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. Soon after his marriage to Peggy, they moved to a farm north of Adair, Mo., where he was engaged in farming with his father-in-law, Wesley Clark. In August of 1963 Sid and Peggy moved to Brashear and bought a grocery store and began a meat processing business which they operated together for nearly 36 years. After his retirement from that business, he worked in the meat department at Hy-Vee in Kirksville until he was elected 2nd District Adair Co. Commissioner, a position he held for 8 years until his retirement in December 2008.
Sid was always very involved in local community events and local government, being instrumental in organizing Little League Baseball in Brashear, was President of the Brashear Centennial Board, served nearly 15 years as Mayor of Brashear, as well as 12 years on the Adair Co. RII school board at Brashear. Sid was always willing to help anyone in need, which he often did, and tried his best to provide employment over the years for as many people as he could.
Sidney was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
A memorial service to celebrate Sidney’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday April 24th, at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville. Family members will receive visitors from 1 pm – 3 pm. Services will be officiated by Reverend Ralph Wheeler, with Frankie Williams providing the music. Burial will be in Parkview Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that any donations be made to the Sidney Osborn memorial fund, to be used for community betterment projects to be determined.
