Melba Rowland

Melba Lavell Rowland 76, of Queen City passed away Wednesday (April 28, 2010) in Northeast Regional Medical Center where she had been a patient since Monday.
The daughter of Orval and Golda (Veach) Rowland, she was born June 27, 1933 in Putnam County, MO. In June of 1948 she was united in marriage to Howard Lee Baker and to this marriage three children were born.
Surviving are one son, Marvin L. Baker of Queen City, one daughter-in-law, Linda Baker of Queen City, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Janetta Smith and husband Jack of Queen City and Loretta Cherry and husband Bob of Las Vegas, NV, two brothers, Loren (Bill) Rowland and wife Betty and Jerry Rowland and wife Jill both of Queen City, one brother-in-law, Lavern Mathes of Queen City, three sister-in-laws, Alice Rowland of Davenport, IA, Martha Rowland of Marshfield, MO and Geraldine Rowland of Greentop, MO and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Billie Jean Calef, one son, Roger Dale Baker, three brothers, Roy (Jack) Rowland, Lowell Rowland and Rev. Don Rowland and one sister, Lavee Mathes.
Melba grew up in Graysville and attended the Green Valley rural school. In the middle 1950's she moved to Rock Island, IL and after retiring returned to Queen City.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday (May 3, 2010) in the Rose Cemetery in Putnam County with Rev. Boyd Halford officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday in the
Dooley Funeral Home
