Theodore (Ted) Calvin Palmer of Kirksville passed away May 7, 2010 at the Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
The son of Emmett and Ollie Collins Palmer, he was born on July 10, 1924 in Purdin, MO. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and was a part of Company C in the 345th Infantry Regiment, 87th Division during WWII, he was honorable discharged in June of 1946. He was engaged in farming after that with his father. On December 22, 1948 he married Marylyn Turner, who preceded him in death. He continued to farm and operate a dairy until 1962, when he went to work for MFA, as a feed store manager at Elmer, MO, then Green City, MO. On June 15, 1966, he married Mary Williams Schmidt, who recently preceded him in death on March 23, 2010. He later became employed by Coop in Ewing, MO for 18 years, until his retirement.
Ted was very active in the Ewing First Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, helped with VBS and drove the church van. He was very involved in the Prison ministry and had the opportunity to witness to many prisoners.
Theodore was also preceded in death by his Father and Mother, one sister, Merle Bozarth.
He is survived by three daughters, Kathy Adkins and husband Bill of Kirksivlle, Peggy McClelland of Jacksonville, NC and Mickey Hills and husband Allan of Kirksville; nine grandchildren, Joshua Hale, Kara Lay, Colin McClelland, Carson McClelland, Carmen McClelland, Christina Bowling, Jonathan Hills, Shelly Hills, and Lindsey Hills; four great grandchildren, Taylor Hale, Mila Hale, Trevlar Lay and Audrey Bowling.
He Moved to Kirksville in 2008 to be closer to family and became a member of Hamilton Street Baptist Church at that time. Theodore always took great pride in caring for his lawn and vehicles. He never meet a stranger and always looked for opportunities to witness to the lord.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (May 12, 2010) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Tim Smith and Reverend Charles Jackson officiating. Music will be provided by David Parrish singing, “Amazing Grace” and “Surely Goodness and Mercy accompanied by Dianthe Cable. Burial with military rites will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
