Dave O’Toole, 75, of Unionville, MO, passed away at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO, on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.
David Leo O’Toole was born in Dubuque, IA, on June 25, 1934, the son of Clarence and Josephine (Galvin) O’Toole, who preceded him in death. He attended St. Columbkilles High School and, after working a few odd jobs, entered the United States Army in 1955. He married Marilyn Gard in Dubuque, IA, on September 29, 1955, and then served three more years in the army.
Dave joined John Deere Corporation upon his honorable discharge from the army and worked there until his retirement as a supervisor in 1986. He then drove a local truck part time in the Princeton, IA, area where he and Marilyn had moved in 1976. They moved to Lake Thunderhead near Unionville, MO, in 1992.
Dave loved to deer hunt with friends, especially in Colorado and Montana, and he loved to fish with Marilyn and the grandkids. Dave was an excellent golfer and he liked to play card games (especially euchre) with friends. David and Marilyn liked to travel and had been to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, & France while Dave was in the army. They had also traveled to Canada, Spain, the Caribbean Islands and on an Alaskan cruise. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Dave was a member of the Centerville, IA, Lions Club and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Unionville, MO.
Dave is survived by his wife, Marilyn and by three sons, Kevin O’Toole and wife Marcella of Bettendorf, IA; Kerry O’Toole and wife Denise of Davenport, IA; and Terry O’Toole and wife Trish, of Charlotte, NC. His four grandchildren are Kalli, Colton, Tara, and Trevor O’Toole. A brother, Jack O’Toole and wife Joyce of Dubuque, IA, and a sister, Mary Jo Atchison and husband Bubbles of Dubuque, IA, also survive.
Others who preceded Dave in death are a son, Brian O’Toole, and a brother, Martin O’Toole.
A funeral Mass will be held for David O’Toole at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO on Friday, May 14th at 11:30 am. Dave’s wishes were to have his body cremated.
