Dorothy Norton, formerly of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Fulton Nursing and Rehab Center in Fulton, MO, on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. She was 94 years of age.
Dorothy Anna Norton was born in Appanoose County, IA, on January 17, 1916, the daughter of Noah and Zenia (Robbins) Richmond who preceded her in death. On April 8, 1933 she married James O. Norton in Unionville, MO, and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1984. James and Dorothy lived in Unionville during their married life where Dorothy was a homemaker and worked part time at the Dairy Lane.
Dorothy earned her GED at the age of 50 and then went to work at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital where she filled a variety of roles. She liked to garden and sew and was active in the First Christian Church in Unionville as well as a member of the DAR and the Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy had a friendly and outgoing personality; her “I love you” greetings will be missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy Norton is survived by two sons, Jerry and wife Vivian Lou Norton of Fulton, MO, and James and wife Erma Norton of Arlington, TX. Seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren also survive.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Joe Bruce, two brothers, Clyde and Lloyd Richmond, and a sister, Neoma Scott. Doretta, a niece, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services for Dorothy Norton will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 2:00 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in Unionville or the Show-Me Christian Youth Homes and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
