Bud Braden, 87, of Livonia, MO, passed away at Edgewood Manor in Raytown, MO, on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Bud had been a resident there for two weeks.
William Preston “Bud” Braden was born in Independence, MO, on July 25, 1922, the son of Ike and Isabel (Harkness) Braden, who preceded him in death. Bud was a veteran of World War II, having served with the US Army in several engagements in the European Theatre, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Tech Sergeant with the 459th Antiaircraft Battalion.
After the service Bud worked as a cement finisher and later with Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence, retiring from that employment. He married Norma Collene Braden in Liberty, MO, in April of 1965 and she preceded him in death on July 30, 2005. Bud and Collene moved to Putnam County in the early 1990’s and lived on acreage southwest of Livonia. Bud liked to plant large vegetable gardens. He had an easy going, congenial manner and was a longtime Mason. He attended the Unionville United Methodist Church.
Bud is survived by a son, Sean Braden, of Independence, MO, and a daughter, Scherrie Adams and husband Don of Kansas City, MO. Four grandchildren, Ethan Braden, Elizabeth Rivera, John Adams and Katie, also survive as well as many nieces and nephews, three of whom were especially close to Bud: Bradford, Rodney, and Brian Walter. Eight great grandchildren survive.
In addition to this parents and wife, Bud was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannette, and a sister, Virginia Walter.
Funeral services for Bud Braden will be held at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
