Norma Lee Veach

Norma Lee Veach 87 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (May 18, 2010) at Kirksville Manor Care.
Norma was born September 20, 1922, in Downing, MO, the daughter of Laurence Myers and Bessie (Green) Barb. On January 30, 1944, in Davenport, IA she married Fred (Brownie) Veach and they have been married 66 years.
Norma is survived by her husband, Fred (Brownie) Veach; sons, Dennis Veach and wife Sharon of Sache, TX and Kim Veach of Greentop, MO; granddaughter, Jennifer Veach and fiance, Clinton Marsh of Birmingham, AL; sister, Marjorie Barb Hidinger of Cedar Rapids, IA; one niece, Barbara Osmundson, and one nephew, Jim Hidinger and wife Jill of Cedar Rapids, IA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Doris and Bill Richardson; several other nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, George Hidinger; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and John Huettman.
Norma attended Walnut Grove School in Scotland County and graduated as valedictorian from Downing High School in 1940. She attended Northeast State Teachers College for two years in 1941-42 and moved to St. Louis where she worked at Curtiss-Wright Airplane Plant in the Accounting Dept. during WW II. After her marriage they lived in Davenport, IA where she worked as a civil service employee in the office of the Army’s Chicago Ordnance District. In 1946 they moved to Downing, MO, and worked at Barb & McCune Grocery. In 1948 they moved to Kirksville and she worked in the business office at the college until 1951. The next two years were spent in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas working for the paymaster’s office of a pipeline company. In 1953 they moved to Fulton, MO, where Brownie worked as a conservation agent until 1955 went he was transferred to Ozark County and then to Swan Lake near Meadville, MO where Norma worked at Swan Lake Office as a reservation clerk. In 1965 they moved to Kirksville where Norma worked for state and government agencies until she retired in 1986.
Norma was a long time member of First Baptist Church and Koininia Sunday School Class; was a former member of Grubby Gardners, League of Women Voters, NEMO Trailriders and currently a member of 3rd Contemporary Club, Kirksville Country Club, Adair Co. Historical Society, Adair Co. Democrat Club and served 25½ years and over 1914 hours as a volunteer for RSVP. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (May 20, 2010) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Marty Joplin officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
