VETERAN Kenneth Hartford
Pearlie Kenneth (Kenny) Hartford, 92, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on June 21, 2010. Kenneth lived at the care center for two years.
Kenneth Hartford was born in Putnam County, MO, on December 2, 1917, the son of John Scott and Pearlie Edith (Tietsworth) Hartford, who preceded him in death. He attended rural schools in the county and graduated from Unionville High School in 1937. He worked on the family farm until joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1941. He was stationed on the west coast at the time of the Pearl Harbor bombing and continued to serve his country until his honorable discharge in 1945. Kenneth then returned to the family farm to help his parents.
Kenneth married Mary Jacobs on January 28, 1951 in Putnam County and she survives at home. Kenneth and Mary lived and farmed south of Unionville for thirty years before moving to a place just east of town where they lived for twenty-seven years before moving into town.
Kenneth loved to farm and raise livestock and did so until retiring at the age of 86. He loved people and liked to visit. He was an avid story teller and knew many, many people from all over the county. He had a good sense of humor and an outgoing personality. Kenneth loved his family. He was a member of the American Legion and active with the MFA Coop.
Kenneth is also survived by two sons, John Hartford and wife Denise of Humboldt, IA, and Kenneth Lee Hartford and friend Bobbi Galloway of Manhattan, KS, and a daughter, Edit Ruth Haffner of Kirksville, MO. Surviving grandchildren are Joe Haffner, Adam Hartford and wife Kim, and Ryan Hartford and wife Kristi. Three great grandchildren also survive and they are Grace Hartford, Leah Hartford, and Nicole Hartford. A sister, Genevieve Summers of Unionville, MO, survives, as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Haffner, and two sisters, Juanita Bomgardner and Alice Foster.
Funeral services for Kenneth Hartford will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 am with visitation at 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Unionville United Methodist Church or the Putnam County Care Center and may be entrusted to Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
