Merrill E. Salladay Jr.
Merrill E. Salladay, Jr. passed away Monday, June 28, 2010 after a brief stay at Twin Pines Skilled Care Center, he was 89 years old.
Mr. Salladay was born January 9th, 1921, in Adair County, to Merrill and Ruby Salladay.
He is survived by one brother, Robert and wife Sue of Sarasota, FL; one sister, Annalou Wheat and husband Ralph of Colorado and he was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Puffer. Mr. Salladay was raised in Adair County and graduated from the Kirksville High School with the class of 1939.
On January 31st, 1942, he was united in marriage to Roma Haberstitch, who preceded him in death on January 27th, 2009. They were the parents of three children; Konny Balay and husband Frank of Santa Maria, CA; Breton Salladay and wife Marcia of Novinger, MO;  Jane Wheeler and husband Todd of Kirksville. Mr. Salladay had six grandchildren, Karina Carvajal, Hugo Carvajal, Tracy Lathrom, Brandon Salladay, Amanda Wheeler and Austin Wheeler. He also had eight great-grandchildren.
After his marriage, Mr. Salladay owned and operated several businesses in Kirksville and was also engaged in row crop farming and raising cattle. Until his retirement, in 1980, he and his wife owned and operated Salladay Implement Co. in Kirksville. In his younger years, Merrill loved to hunt and fish. He was a great talker and never met a stranger he wasn't able to strike up a conversation with.
Graveside service and interment will be held Wednesday evening, June 30, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Park View Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Virgil Jones officiating. Arrangements under the direction of
