LaHoma Sparks
LaHoma Sparks, 92, passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. She had been a resident there for about a year.
LaHoma (Fowler) Sparks was born in Putnam County, MO, on May 3, 1918, the daughter of Ailey O. and Mollie D. (Rowland) Fowler, who preceded her in death. She attended rural schools until the eighth grade. On February 9, 1933 she married Ailey Sparks and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2000.
LaHoma and Ailey lived and farmed all their married life east of Graysville in Putnam County. Their home was a central part of the neighborhood and a gathering place for family and friends. LaHoma was a good cook and she fed many, many people in her home. She had a friendly and outgoing personality and liked to visit. She was kind to everyone and often served as a midwife or to watch over the sick in the community. LaHoma liked to raise chickens and tend a garden. She was good with crafts. Although she and Ailey never had any children of their own, they influenced a multitude of kids.
LaHoma is survived by a brother, Leon Fowler and his wife Maxine, of Unionville, MO, and a sister, Iris Hogg and her husband Irvin, of Livonia, MO. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
LaHoma was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Darek Fowler, and three sisters, Bessie Ray, Arlene Clay, and Barbara McCall.
Funeral services for LaHoma Sparks will be at Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Monday, July 5, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Rose Cemetery east of Unionville.
