Elwood Easley

Elwood Easley, age 87 of Kirksville passed away Thursday evening (July 1, 2010) at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Elwood was born on May 16, 1923 in Adair County Missouri the son of Oscar and Mollie Neadermiller Easley. He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Sanford on May 16, 1948 in Kirksville, who preceded him in death on March 25, 1950. He later married Ellanor Broyles Price on April 6, 1983 in California, Missouri who survives. He is also survived by two nieces Bobette Laycock and Michelle Daugherly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty Jean Easley, one son infancy and one sister Lois Adams.
Elwood was raised and educated in Adair County. At the age of two with his parents he moved to a farm where he lived until moving to Kirksville in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Philippines with the 37th infantry Division. He farmed the family farm until his retirement. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge, Good Sams Camping Chapter. He and Jerry Whittom had a stock car for 20 years that they raced at the fair grounds in Kirksville and also in Iowa and Illinois. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P. M. Sunday (July 4, 2010) at the Davis-PlayleHudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Phil Lyon officiating. Musical selections will be “I Am With Thee” and “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow” sung by Reverend Phil Lyon. Interment will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Whittom, Jerry Whittom, Andy Whittom, Keith Simler, Mark Simler and Paul Simler.
The family will meet friends Sunday (July 4, 2010) from 1:00 P. M until the time of the service at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson- Rimer Funeral Home
