Jan Cawley, 71, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS, on Friday, July 2, 2010, after a battle with cancer.
Janet Louise Cawley was born in St. Joseph, MO, on May 22, 1939, the daughter of Eldon and Mary (Carter) Friley. She graduated from Faucett High School and attended secretarial junior college in St. Joseph. She went to work for the Wire-Rope Corporation. On March 2, 1958 she married Harold Cawley in St. Joe and he survives at home in Unionville.
Jan and Harold moved to Unionville in 1965 and Jan worked as a secretary for the Lake Thunderhead Association. She also sold real estate with Strout Realty. Jan was a certified Red Cross swimming instructor and taught swimming to many children in Putnam County.
Jan was an avid hunter and collector of arrowheads. She also had an extensive collection of Santa Claus’. She enjoyed bowling and trips to the casino as well as bird watching. She and Harold were also active in attending auctions and buying and selling antiques. Jan loved to work with crafts. She was a people person with an outgoing personality.
In addition to her husband, Jan is survived by daughter Tammy Cawley and Donald Watson of Unionville, MO, and son Mark Cawley and his wife Brenda of Smithville, MO. Grandchildren are Tyler and Mitchell Cawley, Nathen Cawley and wife Danielle, and Morgen Watson. Her great granddaughter is Kaitlyn Cawley. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A brother, John Friley, also preceded her in death.
Graveside services for Jan Cawley will be at the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, MO, on Monday, July 5 at 10:00 am. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 s. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
