Wahita Mae Koerner

April 11, 1919 — July 10, 2010

Wanita Mae Koerner, 91 of Kirksville passed away Saturday (July 10, 2010) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
Wanita was born April 11, 1919 in Youngstown, Ohio, the second daughter of Frank and Harriet (Pringle) Warnock. The family moved to Kirksville in 1925 and she graduated from Kirksville High School in 1937. From 1937-1939 she attended nursing school in Burlington, IA. In 1939 she married Rudolph Koerner and lived in Burlington until moving to Kirksville in 1986. She designed flower arrangements in flower shops, enjoyed fishing, bird watching, band concerts in the park, playing cards with friends, and crafts, especially woodworking. She loved the Chicago Cubs and listened to their games on the radio and watched them on TV. After moving to Kirksville she ran a daycare for children in her home for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967, her parents, and both sisters, Marguerite Goodwin and Jennifer Sellars.
Wanita is survived by many nieces and nephews, Paul (Bonnie) Goodwin of Kirksville, John (Karen) Goodwin of Olathe, KS, Sue Martin of Saugatuck, MI, Cheri Suzuki of Brunswick, ME, and many other nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews that live out of the area.
Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (July 20, 2010) at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
There will be no visitation.
