Moonene Jeanette Doss, 85 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (July 21, 2010) at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
Moonene was the daughter of Charles A. and Bertha Elizabeth (Harris) Woodward, and was born on December 19, 1924 in Edina, Missouri. On June 11, 1940 in Lancaster, Missouri she was united in marriage to Marion C. Doss who preceded her in death on September 24, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Marion, Henry, Joseph, Lester, Kenneth and Austin (in infancy); two sisters, Eunice and Welthy; one son in-law, Martin Hull, and one granddaughter, Teresa J. Yoakum Ahlbom.
Moonene is survived by one son, Stanley Doss and wife Sharon of Topeka, KS; three daughters, Barbra Yoakum and husband Kieth of LaPlata, MO , Nadine Hull of LaPlata, MO, Linda Cochran and husband Joe of Burlington, IA; eleven grandchildren, Mark Doss of Topeka, KS, John Doss of Martinsburg, WV, Steven Doss of Kansas City, MO, Diana Lerit of Kansas City, MO, Joyce Slocum of Warrensberg, MO, Jerry Yoakum of Springfield, MO, Gabriel Hull of Warner Robins, GA, Jackson Hull of Benton, AR, Benjamin Hull of Maryville, MO, Andrew Cochran of Burlington, IA and Cara Van Order of Hiawatha, IA; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Doris Doss of Baring, MO, Dorothy Woodward of Yakima, WA and several nieces and nephews.
Moonene was reared in Edina, Missouri where she attended school. She and her husband farmed in Knox County until 1943 when they moved to the family farm northeast of LaPlata. She moved to Kirksville in 1979. She was employed by Hollister’s for 14 years before her retirement in 1990.
Moonene was a member of the LaPlata Community Presbyterian Church and NRMC Senior Circle. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling to her children and grandchildren’s homes to visit. She was a generous and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed life and her family.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (July 24, 2010) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend John Becker officiating. Musical selections will be “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Precious Memories”. Interment will be in the Park View Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Friday (July 23, 2010) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the
