Margaret Brown
Margaret Brown, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, July 31, 2010. She was 84 years of age.
Margaret Roberta (Kelley) Brown was born in Des Moines, IA, on October 28, 1925, the daughter of Robert H. and Margaret Faye (Simmons) Brown, who preceded her in death. She moved with her family to the Kelleyville area of Putnam County when she was a young girl. On April 19, 1942 she married Charles (Olen) Brown in Unionville, MO, and he preceded her in death on June 8, 1998.
Margaret and Olen lived on a farm in Putnam County all of their married life. Margaret was a farm wife who raised chickens, but she also worked off the farm. She drove the country school bus to the rural schools, worked at McGraw-Edison in Centerville, IA, until they closed, and owned and operated Charlie Brown Restaurant in Unionville for 12 years. She also worked in housekeeping at Putnam County Hospital and was a cook at the Senior Center. She loved to cook and bake and take care of her family. She liked to work in the garden and can food. Margaret was a sweet Christian lady who belonged to the Stringtown Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Margaret is survived by her six children: Robert Brown and wife Roberta of Independence, MO; Tom Brown and wife Sandy of Unionville, MO; Ken Brown of Unionville, MO; Connie Bland and husband Dean of Newton, IA; Sheri Blankenship and husband Michael of Jefferson City, MO; and Regena Shepherd and husband Larry of Unionville, MO. Eighteen grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, James Kelley and his wife Pat of Sherman, TX.
She was also preceded in death by three great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Margaret Brown will be at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at 1:30 pm. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 3, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Chapel Cemetery north of Livonia, MO.
