Harold Cawley
Harold Cawley, 75, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KA, on Thursday, July 29, 2010.
Harold Lee Cawley was born in DeKalb, MO, on November 1, 1934, the son of Ernest B. and Martha J. (White) Cawley who preceded him in death. He graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, MO, and served in the United States Air Force after graduation. On March 2, 1958 he married Janet Friley in St. Joseph and she preceded him in death on July 2, 2010.
Harold and Jan lived in St. Joe after their marriage and Harold worked for Howard Construction Company in highway construction. They moved to Unionville in 1966 to work on Lake Thunderhead and then Harold stayed on as manager of the lake with Jan working in the office. Harold maintained that employment until 1978 when he managed land and cattle for Gary Dickinson of Chillicothe Properties. He also worked for the city of Unionville and the Public Water Supply District before his retirement.
Harold had an active antique business, first collecting and then actively selling antiques beginning in 1986. He had a gregarious and friendly personality and a wonderful sense of humor. Harold liked to do yard work, collect arrowheads with Jan and visit the casino. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.
Harold is survived by daughter Tammy Cawley and Donald Watson of Unionville, MO, and son Mark Cawley and his wife Brenda of Smithville, MO. Grandchildren are Tyler and Mitchell Cawley, Nathen Cawley and wife Danielle, and Morgen Watson. His great granddaughter is Kaitlyn Cawley. A brother, Jimmy Cawley and his wife Marian of Grain Valley, MO, and two sisters, Carol Adams and her husband Everett of Bolckow, MO, and Barbara Holtsclaw and husband Gordon of St. Joe, MO, also survive. A sister-in-law, LaVerna Cawley, survives as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parent and wife, Harold was preceded in death by three brothers, Benny, Roy, and Richard Cawley.
Graveside services for Harold Cawley will be held at the Unionville Cemetery on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 1:00 pm. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 s. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
