Bill Young
Bill Young, 77, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO, on Saturday, July 31, 2010. Bill had been a patient there for several days.
William James Young was born in Trenton, MO, on October 31, 1932, the son of James and Mayda (Clark) Young who preceded him in death. He graduated from Trenton High School and then attended Northwest Missouri State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree. He then received a Master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia. On January 14, 1989, he married Alma Valentine in Raytown, MO, and she survives at home in Unionville.
Bill spent his entire working career as a manufacturing representative and salesman. He was exceptionally good at discovering the needs of companies and networking them to manufacturers to supply products. He had an entrepreneurial spirit which led to many innovative business deals. Bill was based in Kansas City, MO, but worked with companies worldwide. He had an easygoing personality and a very astute business mind. He enjoyed reading business magazines and following the markets. He was also an avid baseball and football fan.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by two step-sons, Brad Hamm of Unionville, MO, and Larry Miller and wife Ina of Colorado Springs, CO; and by a step-daughter, Kim McGuire and friend John Crosby of Raleigh, NC. A step-son-in-law, Wayne Morrison and his friend Alma, of Centerville, IA survives as well as a brother-in-law, Wendall Guess of Trenton, MO. Step grandchildren are Devyn Morrison, Monica Coons, Michael Miller, Dustin Hamm, and Tiffany Hamm. Step great grandchildren are Reid Miller, Stevie Schwartz, Christa Coons, and Addie Morrison. Bill is also survived by two nieces: Ellen Oden and Luann Templeton.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Guess and step-daughter, Donna Morrison.
Funeral services for Bill Young will be held at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, on Thursday, August 5, 2010, at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will in the West Liberty Cemetery, Unionville, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the West Liberty Cemetery or the West Liberty Baptist Church and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
