Lora McKay
Lora McKay, formerly of Centerville, IA, passed away at the Atlantic Care Center in Atlantic, IA, on Saturday, July 31, 2010. He was 75 years of age and had lived in Atlantic for about a year.
Lora Franklin McKay was born in Unionville, MO, on October 27, 1934, the son of Thomas F. and Dorothy (Hibbs) McKay who preceded him in death. He graduated from Unionville High School and began farming in Putnam County and driving a truck for Staggs trucking. He later moved to Appanoose County, IA, where he farmed and owned his own trucking business. He married Connie Seals on October 31, 1962, in Unionville, MO, and she survives in Atlantic, IA.
Lora enjoyed his farming and especially taking care of his cattle. He liked to hunt and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He had a quiet and reserved personality who enjoyed spending time with this family.
Other of Lora’s survivors include a son, Marty McKay of Kirksville, MO, and two daughters, Angela McKay of Atlantic, IA, and Delora Funk of Jefferson City, MO. He is survived by five grandchildren: McKayla Tully, Joshua Tully, Jodi Devore, Austin McKay, and Hoss McKay and one great grandson, Benjamin Devore. A brother, Max McKay of Unionville, MO, also survives.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas McKay, and a grandson, Joshua McKay.
Graveside services for Lora McKay will be held at the Unionville Cemetery on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 10:00 am. A visitation will be held at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville one hour prior to the service.
Memorials are suggested to the family in lieu of flowers and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO, 63565.
