Basil Rhoads
Basil Rhoads, 89, of Unionville, MO passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on Thursday, August 5, 2010. Basil had only been a resident there for a few weeks.
Basil Lee Rhoads was born on February 19, 1921 in Pennville, MO. He was the son of John Lee and Mary Lee (Fetters) Rhoads. On December 25, 1948 he married Violet Lucille Brummitt. To this union 2 children were born, Roger Rhoads of Moberly MO and Peggy Rhoads of the home.
Basil attended the Pennville Schools, served in the Army during WWII, and was a member of the Church of Christ being baptized in his 60’s. Basil farmed his entire life before retiring in 1985, but always continued reminiscing about his horses. Basil faithfully went on a daily walk regardless of the weather conditions. He even participated in the Rely for Life walk.
Basil is survived by his 2 children Roger and Peggy; brothers, Vernon Rhoads and wife Verla of Green City, MO and Marion Rhoads and wife Clarene of Liberty, MO. Basil is also survived by several nieces and nephews, friends, and church family.
In addition to Basil’s parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers, Glen, Melvin, and Harold and sisters, Wilma Wood and Hazel Bradford. Basil was also preceded in death by nieces Mary Jean Campbell and Judy Carder and a great nephew, Tommy Wood.
Basil was a very likeable man and would help anyone in need. He loved both of his children.
Memorials for Basil are suggested to Grant Street Church of Christ, American Cancer Society, or Diabetes Association and may be entrusted to the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
