Jane Mauck
Jane Marie Mauck was born October 25, 1945, to the late Duane and Vera Hollenbeck in Cherokee, Iowa, and departed this life peacefully on August 18, 2010.
Jane attended elementary and secondary schools in Quimby, Iowa, and graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA, in 1968 with a degree in English. Jane earned her masters degree from Northeast Missouri University and taught junior and senior high English in Oskaloosa, IA, and Kirksville, MO for over 30 years and substituted for 8 years.
On April 3, 1971, Jane and Donald Dean Mauck were united in marriage and made their home over the years in Kirksville, Moberly and Hamilton, MO. To this union, two sons were born: Matthew of St. Charles, MO, and Miles of St. Louis, MO.
In addition to her husband and sons, she is survived by three grandchildren whom she loved very much; Allison, Nicholas, and Brooklyn, brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Ina Jane Hollenbeck of Grand Rapids, MI, and Rodney and Carol Hollenbeck of Manchester, MO, sister-in-law, Doris Barnett of Fulton, MO, and brother and sister-in-law, Betty and Rick Spiker of Stockton, MO; step-mother, Elaine Hollenbeck of Cherokee, IA, nieces, Jill, Jennifer, Martha and Cindy and nephews, Andy, Ryan, Tim and Tony; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jane was an avid reader who loved books and loved spending summers on the golf course as a member of the Kirksville Country Club. A favorite pastime was shopping and garage sales. She touched the lives of many students and, while she was known as tough, she earned their respect and was a favorite teacher. Jane truly enjoyed teaching and forming the young minds who passed through her classes. Although illness deprived her of her retirement on earth, we know she’s curled up relaxing and reading a book with the Master Teacher.
