Waverly Jane Gramling
Waverly Jane Gramling 88, of Kirksville passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The daughter of Ray A. and Grace R. (Havens) Pipes, Waverly was born August 19, 1922 in Sullivan County, MO. On May 10, 1942 in Brookfield, MO, she was united in marriage to Clarence E. Gramling who preceded her in death on July 27, 2003. Also preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Carol Almeda Smith, Janice Pipes Shipley and Bette Phyllis Barigo and one son, Michael Gramling.
Waverly is survived by one son, Stephen Gramling and his wife, Marla, of Kirksville; one daughter-in-law, Anne Gramling of Kirksville; one granddaughter, Melissa Jane Gramling and fiancée’, Jeff Goodwin, of Edina, MO; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Stella and several nieces and nephews.
Waverly was reared and educated in Sullivan County, MO. She taught school in Sullivan County, MO. Waverly was a devoted housewife and mother and was active in many community organizations. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Inquirer’s Sunday School Class and the Cursillo Group. She helped start the Emergency Relief Ministry and served as chairman for one year. She was also a member of the Red Hatter’s. Her faith, family and friends were the biggest point of her life. Waverly will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Richard Northcutt officiating. Music will be provided by Lanna Novinger singing “He Touched Me”, “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagle's Wings” accompanied Dianthe Cable, organist. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Sullivan County, MO.
Pallbearers will be H.J. Shepherd, Andy Shipley, David Gramling, Jeff Goodwin, Philip Lawrence and Jeff Curtis.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening, August 24, 2010, at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
