Ernest (Joe) Dale Humphrey
Joe Humphrey, 89 of Queen City passed away Saturday morning (September 18, 2010) in the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The son of Clinton Lacy and Monna May (Dunham) Humphrey, he was born January 5, 1921 in Willmathsville, MO. On March 14, 1942, in Memphis, MO he was united in marriage to Eva Rachel McCartney.
Joe joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and received a full medical discharge in 1943.
Joe and Eva lived in the Queen City area for most of their lives. He was a well known mechanic for the Ford Motor Co. for eleven years. Joe was a master carpenter for thirty years or more before his retirement. Joe was an avid hunter and a life long member of the NRA and member of the Northeast Coyote Men’s Association. Anyone who knew Joe knew that he was the all around good samaritan. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for anyone in need. He would never pass anyone by or refuse help to anyone who needed it. Joe loved to travel and for eighteen straight years he and Eva went to Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Eva Rachel Humphrey, his parents, two grandsons, Ernest M. Rude Jr. and Peter Anthony Humphrey, one granddaughter, Ronda Lea King, four brothers, Francis Paul, Chester, Herschel, and Bernard, two sons-in-law, Ernest Rude and Harold Odom.
Joe is survived by three daughters, Mary Rude of Wheatland, IA, Evelyn Odom of Waller, TX, and Joyce Clark of Queen City and one son, Lorren Dale Humphrey of Duluth, GA; three sister, Fern Bratton of Kirksville, Maxine Neal of Republic, MO and Minnie Mahler of Fletcher, OK; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (September 22, 2010) at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Musical selections will be “These Hands"; "When God Comes and Gathers His Jewels", “Amazing Grace", and "He Walked on Water". Burial will be in the Willmathsville Cemetery.
Pa1lbearers will be Bob Bratton, Jason Bratton, Darryl Humphrey, Rob Bratton and Brian Fenton. Honorary bearers will be Clinton Humphrey and Larry Fielder.
Visitation with the family will be from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Monday (September 20, 2010) in the
Dooley Funeral Home
