Eileen Marie (Welsh) Fowler
Eileen Fowler, 85, of Unionville, MO, passed away at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO, on October 15, 2010.
Eileen Marie (Welsh) Fowler was born October 20, 1924 in Emporia, KS, the daughter of William & Lelia (Hollingshead) Welsh.
She was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Fowler on September 26, 1943 and to his union four children was born: Don Fowler, Janice (Fowler) Doolin, Robert Fowler, and Richard Fowler.
Preceding Eileen in death are her husband, Bob, in 1975, and her son, Richard Devon, in 1955. Also preceding her in death are her parents, a brother, J. D. Welsh and his wife Helen; parents-in-law Asa & Lura Fowler, brothers-in-law David Fowler, Gene Fowler and his wife Gail, and son-in-law Raymond Doolin.
Eileen is survived by son Don Fowler and wife June of Unionville, MO; daughter Janice Doolin of Unionville, MO; and son Robert Fowler and his wife Deena of Chesterfield, MO. Other survivors are grandchildren Rich Fowler and wife Kenndaline of Spearville, KS; Rhonda Hoover and husband Eric of Unionville, MO; Brenda Hinkle and husband Brad of Unionville, MO; Ryan Fowler and wife Michelle of O’Fallon, Il; Brent Doolin and wife Emily of Macon, MO; Natalie Lasley and husband Tony of O’Fallon, MO; Katherine Westhoff and husband Geoff of Columbia, MO. She is also survived by her bright and shining stars (great grandchildren) Chase and Katy Fowler; Sydney & Madison Hoover, Jaden, Mason, Lucas, and Kayln Hinkle; Triston Fowler, Gracie & Ella Doolin, and Abby Lasley. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Eileen was baptized into Christ on April 17, 1949. She worked at Herrick Rexall Drug Store, and then at Union Carbide in Centerville, IA, where she retired after 21 years of service. At age 60 she took a part-time job as a food service worker at the Putnam County schools where she worked until the age of 80, when she retired from there.
Eileen loved being an active part in her grandchildren and great grand children’s activities. She was a die hard Putnam County Midget fan. She and her friend Bonnie Hounsom rarely missed a game. Bonnie was like a sister to Eileen; in fact they began to look alike and would sometimes be mistake for one another. Eileen had the honor of being Grand Marshal of the Putnam County Homecoming parade in 2008.
Eileen lived a full life, yet was saddened by the passing of her good friends Curly Fowler and Ilene Johnson. She enjoyed mornings with the “Breakfast Bunch” at a local restaurant.
Eileen’s pride and joy was her family. She also spent many hours visiting at Bristol Manor and the nursing home and was always available to run errands when needed. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Funeral services for Eileen Fowler will be at Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Monday, October 18, 2010. Visitation will be Sunday, October 17 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, MO.
