Clara Alice Wheeler
Clara Alice Wheeler, 83 of Kirksville passed away Sunday (October 17, 2010) at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Ralph and Cecil Alice (Felker) Nicol, she was born March 7, 1927 in Kirksville, MO. On December 21, 1946 in Edina, MO she was united in marriage to Donald Wheeler.
Clara is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald; sons, Donald Dusty Wheeler and wife JoAnn of Kirksville, Timothy Alan Wheeler and wife Roberta of Kirksville, Eric J. Wheeler and Rose Ann Wheeler of Kirksville and Donnie Lee Wheeler and wife DeAnna of LaPlata, MO; six grandchildren, Linda Wheeler, Sarah Wheeler, Callie Wheeler, Seth Wheeler, Abigail Wheeler and Olivia Wheeler; four great grandchildren, Cole Wheeler, Zac Wheeler, Tel Wheeler and Drew Wheeler; two sisters, Ann Durham of Hurricane, WV and Georgia Mae Moore of Chicago, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Christopher Lee Wheeler, two daughters in infancy and one sister, Claudell Kerwood.
Clara attended the Kirksville schools and graduated from the Kirksville High School with the class of 1945. She attended two years and Northeast Missouri State University. She raised her family and later worked at KCOM, Adair Lumber and was the Adair County Treasurer from 1974 to 1994 when she retired. Clara and Donald lived on the farm for 62 years.
Clara was a member of the First Christian Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, secretary, treasurer and was one of the first women elders. She was also a member of the ABWA where she had served as treasurer, Adair County Republican Club, Missouri Treasurers Assoc., and was involved in many charitable organizations and fund raisers. She loved taking care of her family, grandkids, sewing, and going to the neighborhood club.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (October 21, 2010) at the First Christian Church with Reverend Steve McDuff officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Park View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the
