Earl Patton, 86, of Lucerne, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, MO on Monday, October 25, 2010, after a three year battle with cancer.
Earl Leroy Patton was born in La Monte, MO, on February 17, 1924, the son of William Joseph and Prudie Pearl (Robinson) Patton who preceded him in death. He was reared in Hale, MO, and then moved to Des Moines, IA, as a young man to work in highway construction. He married Wanda in Unionville, MO, on January 8, 1954 and she preceded him in death on July 4, 2009.
Earl and Wanda lived and farmed in the Lucerne, MO, from 1954-1966 and then returned to Colfax, IA, where Earl worked for Winpowers manufacturing in Newton, IA. He took early retirement in 1971 and moved back to Lucerne.
Earl liked to garden and do yard work. He also liked to cut fire wood, paint ceramics and hunt. He had been a resident at Pearls II for a time before moving in with his daughter Linda in March of 2010.
Earl is survived by his three children, Larry Patton of Lucerne, MO, Linda Wilson and her husband Jack, also of Lucerne, MO, and Doris Edwards of St. Joseph, MO. Surviving grandchildren are Diane Edwards and Jessica Edwards and surviving great grandchildren are Alexandria Edwards and Daisy Clark.
Others who preceded Earl in death are an infant daughter, Louise, a brother, William S. Patton, and two sisters, Nona Collins and Jennie (Pat) Clark.
Graveside services for Earl Patton will be at the West Liberty Cemetery west of Unionville, MO, on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at 1:00 pm. Pastor Kevin Collins will conduct the service with recorded musical selection “Daddy’s Hands.” Casket bearers will be Eddie Rhoades, James Rhoades, Michael Rhoades, and Tim Blanchard.
Memorials for Earl are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be entrusted with Playle & Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th, Unionville, MO, 63565.
