Joseph (Joe) E. Morton
Joseph (Joe) Morton, 73, of Kirksville died Monday, October 25, 2010 at the University Hospital in Columbia.
The son of Orville and Ruby (Clark) Morton, born January 23, 1937 in Greentop, MO. On March 31, 1962 in Kirksville, he was united in marriage to Karreon Selby who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Todd Morton and Tony Morton of Kirksville; four grandchildren, Colt and Shannon Lewis, Kiel Morton, Taydem Morton, and Alyson Morton; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Ashlyn Lewis; five brothers, Wayne Morton and wife Sue, Doug Morton and wife Donna, and Keith Morton all of Kirksville, Robert Morton and wife Margie of Effingham, IL, James Morton and wife Sandra of Wentzville, MO; three sisters, Lavon Newberry of New Windsor, IL, Joyce Billington of Memphis, MO, and Gladys Johnson of Kankakee, IL; and sister-in-law, Betty Fox of Kirksville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister, Shirley Faulk.
Joe attended Hazel Creek Rural School. After his marriage, he drove a truck for Miller and Son Trucking in Brashear and worked for J. Burdman Auto Parts as a yardman. For twenty-eight years he was employed at Truman State University, formerly Northeast Missouri State University, as a groundskeeper retiring in September of 1997. Joe enjoyed raising cattle and operating Joe's Used Cars, which he started in 1971. His hobbies were coon hunting, river fishing, going to car auctions, going to stock car races with his boys, and was an avid wrestling fan. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Virgil Jones will officiate with specially recorded musical selections. Burial will follow at Gibbs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Todd Morton, Kiel Morton, Colt Lewis, Robert Morton, Larry Winn, and Bruce Flynn. Honorary bearers will be Dana Krieder, Robert Willis, Jason Carmack, Robert Humphrey, Clifford Johnson, David Snyder, and Joe Breuklander.
Family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at
