Opal Berniece Gordon
Opal Berniece Gordon, age 90, left this world peacefully to be with Jesus on October 27, 2010 at the Neighborhoods of Quail Creek Skilled Nursing Home in Springfield, MO.
Surviving are her children, Opal Ann (Gordon) McKim and husband Richard from Kansas City, MO, Wanda Lou (Gordon) Martens and husband Walter from Ozark, MO and Carl Dickey Gordon from Malvern, IA; seven grandchildren who loved their grandmother dearly, Dwayne McKim, Denise (McKim) Bolton and husband Daryl, Rene (Martens) Van Pelt and husband Michael, Sheila Martens-Brown and husband Eddie, Shannon (Martens) Leighty and husband Mark, Shawn Gordon and wife Sara and Brandon Gordon and wife Sarah., eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wesley Gordon, her parents, Charles Hardin Dickey, Sr. and her mother, Artie Meshia (Robinson) Dickey, thirteen brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gordon was born in Thompson, MO on February 23, 1920. She lived in Auxvasse, MO and married Carl Wesley Gordon on December 3, 1937. They resided in Auxvasse where Mr. Gordon owned a trucking business until the death of his farther. They then moved to Greentop, MO to care for Mr. Gordon's mother and work the family farm. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon lovingly raised their three children near Greentop. They were married 59 years until the death of Mr. Gordon. Mrs. Gordon later moved to Kansas City and then to Ozark MO to be near her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Gordon loved her family and lived for them. She also loved flowers and always had a beautiful garden until she was no longer able to care for it. She was a talented quilter and an excellent cook.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (October 30, 2010) at the Greentop Cemetery with Reverend Bill Smathers officiating. Burial will follow in the Greentop Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Gordon, Daryl Bolton, Dwayne McKim, Eddie Brown, Mike Van Pelt and Shawn Gordon. Honorary bearers will be Charles Lewellen, Drew Bolton, Francis Fowler, Jon McKim, Mark Leighty and T.J. Leighty.
Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service on Saturday.
