Nellie Voncille Vance

Nellie V. Vance, 89 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (November 18, 2010) at the Twin Pines Adult Care Center.
Mrs. Vance was born on December 23, 1920 in Novelty, MO, the daughter of Edgar E. and Mary (Leckbee) McCarty. She was united in marriage to Leo Carl Smith Sr. on May 9, 1939 in Edina, MO and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1971. She was united in marriage to Emmett Vance on July 29, 1978 in Edina, MO and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Leo Smith, JR. and Ricky Gail Smith and one brother, Charles C. McCarty.
Nellie was survived by one son, Clifford E. Smith and wife Pat of Kirksville; two daughters, Lora Jane Turner and husband David of Shirley, IN and Serita Rose Murphy of Hattiesberg, MS; nine grandchildren, David Murphy, Christopher Murphy, Blake Turner, Bryan Smith, Jaime Lynn Smith, Crystal Smith, Jason Smith, Carmen Williams and Kelly Smith; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Keiser of Palmyra, MO and Doris Nicholas of West Chester, IL and one daughter-in-law, Mary Jones of Columbia, MO.
Nellie was reared in Novelty, Missouri and graduate from the Novelty High School. After her marriage she moved to Kirksville. She was employed at Wal-Mart for several years. After her retirement she traveled thought out the United States and Canada. The most important thing in her life was her family and they always came ahead of anything else.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (November 23, 2010) at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Reverend Virgil Jones officiating. Musical selections will be “Beyond the Sunset”, “In the Garden” and “Will the Rose Bloom In Heaven”. Interment will be in the Maple Hills Chapel Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Dental Williams, Chris Murphy, David Murphy, Blake Turner, Jason Smith, Kelly Smith and Bryan Smith.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the
Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
