Teresa Garr, 62, of Unionville, MO, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 26, 2010. She had endured a brief battle with cancer.
Teresa May (Darrah) Garr was born in Unionville, MO, on February 26, 1948, the daughter of William Frank and Mary May (Rowland) Darrah, who preceded her in death. Teresa’s mother passed away when Teresa was just a toddler and her father later married Selena Darrah (Watts) on June 9, 1951 who helped raise Teresa. Selena also preceded Teresa in death.
Teresa was reared in Unionville, MO. She married and later divorced Carl Mendenhall. She also married and later divorced Donald Garr. Teresa was a licensed CNA for over 25 years working at Care Centers in Newton, IA, Unionville, MO, and Princeton, MO. She worked at the Putnam County Care Center for 15 years and at Pearls II in Princeton for over two years until ill health forced her to resign.
Teresa was a friendly and outgoing person who loved to care for and help anyone in need. She loved to sing Karaoke. “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Suspicious Minds” were her favorite songs to sing. She loved gathering with her family, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Teresa loved being with all her grandkids.
Teresa is survived by four sons, Richard Mendenhall, Rodney Mendenhall, Donald Mendenhall and wife Megan, and James Garr, all of Unionville, MO. Her surviving daughters are Charity Durbin and husband David and Bridgett Selvy all of Unionville, MO. Teresa is also survived by a brother, David Partin and wife Jennifer of Surprise, AZ, 26 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, and 2 nieces.
In addition to her mother and step mother, Teresa was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shelby Mendenhall.
Teresa’s Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO. Teresa’s visitation will begin one hour prior to her service.
Memorials for Teresa are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be entrusted to the Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
